Gypsy Moth Suppression Treatment Scheduled for Week of June 4

Pending favorable weather conditions, the City of Wyoming's Gypsy Moth treatment spray is scheduled for Monday, June 4. The application should start early in the morning, around 6 a.m. The contractor, Hamilton Helicopter, will be taking off and landing near 36th St in the Godwin Heights neighborhood.

This year's treatment area, which was finalized in March, was determined by a combination of the consultant's fall assessment and resident feedback. At this time the treatment area cannot be changed; however, residents can submit their address online for future consideration.

It is important to note that the spray is only conducted for properties where gypsy moths are deemed a credible threat to the survival of the property's trees. The mere presence of gypsy moths not necessitate inclusion in the treatment. In addition, the treatment is meant to mitigate the population rather than eradicate it.

Homes that are located in this year's treatment area will be receiving an informational letter later this week. More information about the City's suppression program, tips for homeowners, and an online feedback form for affected property owners can be found on the City's website.
