The Salvation Army Social Services

The Salvation Army offers spiritual, emotional, and social assistance to those who have lost the ability to cope with their problems and provide for themselves. Our free programs provide housing, food, counseling, community, and employment as we work to treat the symptoms, and ultimately the root causes, of prolonged alcohol and drug dependence.

New Hope Sobering Center

The New Hope Sobering Center is available to any individual who is profoundly intoxicated or under the influence of illicit substances. The Sobering Center offers a safe and quiet diversion from the hospitals, jails and streets. Individuals admitted to the Sobering Center are provided with a dignified space to sleep, eat a nutritious meal, shower and receive a change of clothing. Everyone entering the Sobering Center is assessed for readiness to change, and in partnership with Network 180, also have the opportunity to meet with an onsite recovery coach.

Outside In provides service for Veteran's suffering from PTSD, transition stress and other emotional and mental health issues.  In addition to individual therapy, we offer marital and family therapy as well as support groups for Veteran's and their families. Our Heroes for Horses program pairs Veteran's with a retired racehorse.  Racehorses coming off the track struggle to adjust to a new environment in many of the same ways that Veterans do coming home from war. Through this program both Veterans and horses help each other heal and find a new purpose in life.

Community Food Club

The Community Food Club is a non-profit, member-based grocery store. Members whose income qualify pay between $12 and $18 for a 30 day membership and are able to shop using points based on their household size. Most members receive 9 to 11 days’ worth of food during each membership period. Members can shop as often as they’d like and select foods that fit their needs. The membership fee also provides access to nutrition education opportunities through our partnership programming.

Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan

AAAWM connects adults to quality services that promote and preserve their dignity, independence, and well-being, coordinates support and education for caregivers, and leads advocacy efforts on behalf of older adults by:

Catholic Charities Senior Companion Program

The Senior Companion Program provides support and companionship to those that need increased assistance for daily living tasks and helps to improve their quality of life. The program aims to keep seniors independent longer and to provide assistance to families and caregivers.

 Senior Companions serve 15-40 hours per week helping an average of 2-4 adult clients.  Volunteers serve in their own local community in clients’ homes as well as senior centers and living facilities.
