Why are these changes happening?
The City is consolidating precincts in response to changes in legislation and voting habits. These changes have been prompted by:
- The passage of Public Act 227 of 2023 raised the precinct size limit from 2,999 to 4,999 voters per precinct.
- An increasing number of voters are casting their ballots through early or absentee voting options instead of in-person on Election Day.
Condensing precincts helps us:
- Reallocate our resources to better serve voters.
- Save money on election equipment, election supplies, maintenance costs, election inspectors, and rental of non-city-owned polling locations.
Will this impact mail-in voting?
- There is virtually no impact on mail-in voting.
- If you vote absentee and are on the permanent absentee ballot list or the permanent absentee application list, a ballot or an application for a ballot will still be mailed to you.
- The only thing that will change is the precinct number on your ballot or application for a ballot.
- You won’t have to change anything about the way you vote!
