Wyoming Housing Commission

The mission of the Wyoming Housing Commission (WHC) is to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity, and a suitable living environment free from discrimination.

The WHC owns 195 public housing units. They are located at Westwood Apartments, Waldon Woods, and scattered locations throughout the City of Wyoming. Individuals and families pay rent directly to the WHC based on their income.

The WHC administers approximately 1,150 Housing Choice Vouchers (Section-8) within Kent County and part of Ottawa County. The families and individuals who receive the vouchers pay a portion of their income for rent and the WHC pays the remainder (up to the limits set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development - HUD) directly to the landlords each month.

COVID-19 Procedural Changes for Wyoming Housing Commission

The Wyoming Housing Commission (WHC) continues to stay in communication with local agencies regarding COVID-19.  WHC has reviewed safety measures and has implemented changes as how we conduct our day-to-day operations, they are as follows:

The WHC is currently closed to the public. However, staff is still available to assist the public's needs, we do ask to please be patient as we work through all the changes and the updated technology processes.  We are asking the public to please contact us in one of the following ways

  • U.S. Mail to our business address at 2450 36th ST SW, Wyoming, MI  49519.

WHC values our participants, residents and the public, so we want to ensure we do our best to still serve our community while maintaining the policies and guidelines set forth by the CDC meant to protect the health of residents and slow the spread of COVID-19.  If contact with the public is necessary, the WHC will require the public to follow CDC guidelines to wear a facial mask, along with social distancing, in order for the WHC to assist the public's need.

WHC is asking our residents to please limit visitors to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.  WHC is also requiring that all residents and guests from Westwood Apartments to wear facial masks in the public spaces to prevent contaminating others in the community.  If you are a Westwood Apartment resident and do not have a mask available to you, please contact our office and we will assist you.

PUBLIC NOTICES

WHC BOARD MEETINGS

The Housing Commission Board will meet on  August 17, 2021; October 19, 2021; and December 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.  The Board members are Jennifer Stowell, Bruce Robey, Diana Lanser, Katy Steele, and Marilee Roukema.

Meetings will be held at the Wyoming Housing Commission, located at 2450 36th St SW, Wyoming, MI  49519

To limit potential exposure to COVID-19, we are making some temporary changes to our Wyoming Housing processes.

Social distancing - mask wearing - and completion of a Covid Acknowledgment form will be required to attend.
