Wyoming, Michigan, July 25, 2017 – Several neighborhoods throughout the City of Wyoming are planning celebrations to observe National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Neighborhood events typically involve food, music and an opportunity to meet neighbors, local elected officials and public safety officers.
Wyoming residents have been observing National Night Out for several years and the focus on neighborhood collaboration is being noticed by public safety officials. “Our residents are our first line of defense when it comes to preventing crime and ensuring safety,” says James Carmody, Director of Public Safety for the City of Wyoming. “Through events like National Night Out we are able to bring neighbors together and continue strengthening our city, overall.”
The following events are currently planned for the City of Wyoming:

Consumers Energy Kick Off Event with Mayoral Proclamation: 5:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.

Grace Bible College, field just west of Clyde Park on 26th Street: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Taft Ave, 2860 Taft Ave: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Rogers Lane Neighborhood Watch, 2929 Rogers Lane: 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Lamar Park, 2561 Porter St SW: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

South Godwin Neighborhood Association, Southlawn Park, 4125 Jefferson Ave SE: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Ferrand Estates Clubhouse, 4528 Halifax Ave SW: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Calvary Church, 3500 Byron Center Ave SW: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Riverview Condos Clubhouse, 3325 Scenic River Dr: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Cross Creek Greens Condo, 900 block of 52nd St: 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Oriole Park Neighborhood Watch, 1380 42nd St SW: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Rolling Hills Neighborhood Watch, 2523 Oak View: 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

43rd St. 2400 block of 43rd St: 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to turn their porch lights on the evening of August 1 and spend time outdoors meeting their neighbors, especially in those areas that aren’t hosting a formal event. Public safety officials remind the public that knowing your neighbors and looking out for each other is one of the most effective crime fighting tools and it is completely free.
