FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Ronald Fryling and Lester Yonkers both served as Reserve Firefighters for the Wyoming Fire Department out of Station No. 2 from 1971 to 1980. Both Firefighters were killed in the line of duty while fighting a fire at the Chinatown Restaurant on February 24, 1980. To recognize Ronald Fryling and Lester Yonkers for their dedication and contribution to the Wyoming Fire Department, the Firefighter of the Year award has been named in their honor.
This award is given annually to the one individual who best exemplifies the characteristics of a firefighter and who has an outstanding record of fire service achievements. These characteristics are not restricted to heroic action but encompass all aspects of professionalism, dedication and department/community impact.
