The Wyoming Department of Public Safety is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Office Specialist to join the Police Records Unit. Ideal candidates will have the ability to manage multiple priorities under strict deadlines, learn quickly, and apply knowledge to laws and statues, all while communicating effectively with the public. If you are ready for a fast-paced role that goes beyond the typical clerical position, we want to hear from you!

Office Specialists in the Police Records Unit provide essential administrative and clerical support, including processing requests for police reports, background checks, firearm purchase applications, and other related tasks. This role involves direct interaction with the public – in person, over the phone, and via email – to respond to inquiries and service requests.

Key responsibilities include data entry, scanning, filing, and maintaining accurate records. Office Specialists also prepare correspondence, manage warrants, process subpoenas and Personal Protective Orders (PPOs) through the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN), and assist with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. These tasks require handling confidential information, redacting documents and videos, and communicating with requestors. Additionally, the office specialist may assist with departmental projects and other assigned tasks

This position offers a generous employee benefits package:

  • Four-day workweek (Monday-Thursday), 38 hours per week (full-time)
  • Comprehensive health insurance with no deductible
  • Employer paid dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 12% employer-paid retirement package which includes a defined contribution and post-employment health plan.
  • Paid leave time, including holidays, sick, vacation, and personal days.
  • Employer commitment to education, training, and development
  • Free access to an employee assistance program

Candidates must have a high school diploma and be able to obtain LEIN certification within one year of hire. Bilingual candidates are preferred; prior experience in a police records unit is a plus.

The Office Specialist I wage range is $20.31 to $24.81. The Office Specialist II wage range is $23.72 to $29.48. For placement as an Office Specialist II, the applicant must have prior police records experience and a proficient understanding of FOIA. Employees are eligible for a pay increase following the end of the probationary period.
