Wyoming Senior Center Entrance Renovation Project

An American Recovery and Reinvestment Act federal stimulus grant allowed the Wyoming Senior Center to renovate the entrance area.  The project, completed in October 2009, cost just over $140,000 to provide a more welcoming reception area complete with expanded seating, audio-visual enhancements and improved accessibility to the rest of the facility.  More than 250 participants attend the Center on a daily basis, while programming and services average more than 60,000 participants per year.

Teen CouncilTeen Council

In May 2009, the Parks and Recreation Department recognized a long-time goal by holding the first meeting of the department’s Teen Council.  The Teen Council will serve as a voice for the Wyoming teen community and promote youth leadership and responsibility through volunteerism and community involvement.  Officers were recently nominated, elected and installed and a regular monthly meeting schedule established.  A sub-committee of the Teen Council is acting as the Youth Advisory Committee for the Wyoming Community Foundation, making decisions as to the distribution of grant funding to applying organizations that focus programming and services addressing teen issues in the Wyoming area.
