Role of Planning

The  Planning Department is responsible for both the current and long range administration of community land use laws and adopted comprehensive plans. These include the Zoning Ordinance, Form Based Code, Subdivision Ordinance and the Wyoming [re]Imagined Master Plan .  The Planning Department serves the Wyoming City Council, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals by providing professional recommendations pertaining to development proposals, rezonings, amendments to the Zoning Ordinance  and Land Use Plan, and variance requests. The Planning Department facilitates the multi-departmental review for all developments in the City, except for single-family housing.

The city’s Guide to Development can be found here. The guide to development includes an overview of the development review process in the City of Wyoming. The guide explains the review processes, policies, steps, and other relevant information for applicants. Links to web pages and contact information are provided throughout the document for easy access to the most up-to-date forms, applications, and all other pertinent information.

The City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is continually updated and includes a three year implementation plan. CIP projects include street, watermain, storm sewer, and non-motorized trail construction, as well as preventative maintenance of infrastructure. The CIP and details about the three year implementation plan can be viewed here.

Zoning

The City of Wyoming is divided into numerous residential, commercial and industrial zoning district classifications. Zoning codes regulate almost all types of development to varying degrees.

Zoning codes pertain to such matters as maximum height, minimum building area, minimum lot sizes, minimum setbacks to buildings and use of property.

Zoning codes also regulate such matters as fence installations, maximum height, parking requirements, signs and storage of recreational vehicles.

The Building Inspections department enforces the zoning code; however the Planning Department should be contacted for Zoning Code Map changes. The zoning map is updated periodically on this web display.

The complete Zoning Code text is available within our City Code.

The Form Based Code affecting parts of the City is available for your review.
