Tornado Recovery Information

Posted on Thursday, August 25, 2016 | Press & Media

An update on storm recovery efforts as of August 24 at 9 a.m.:

Street closures: We are closing 52nd Street between Ivanrest and Byron Center at 8 a.m. until all the storm debris in the right-of-way is removed. Throughout the day, we will have moving lane closures on the following streets to remove debris: Ivanrest, Byron Center, Burlingame, Prairie and 36th Streets. Please give extra space for our Public Works crews and their equipment.

Yard waste: We would ask residents to get storm-related brush they would like picked up by the City out by the sidewalk by Monday, August 29 – if possible. This will allow us to minimize the number of trips we need to make to a neighborhood. If you are unable to do this, the City will still pick up debris after August 29. If you have debris that requires City crews to pick up, please call the Public Works Department at 616.530.7260 to help us manage need. Reminder that all storm debris should be placed behind your sidewalk and not in the public right-of-way or on the street. We ask for everyone's patience as we work to get our City cleaned up.

Extended hours: We are keeping the yard waste site open 24-hours through Monday, August 29 for debris drop-off. This time period may be extended an additional week if needed. The yard waste center will be closed from Sunday, September 4 until noon on Thursday, September 15.

Help line: Wyoming residents who need assistance not related to debris removal can call 616.530.7226 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parks: Prairie and Lemery parks are now open, although their trails remain closed. Evaluation and restoration work is beginning in the other affected parks, but Pinery Park, Buck Creek and Ferrand will remain closed until future notice. Pinery Park Shelter and Sections A, B, C reservations will be moved or refunded through September 30. Use of the Lodge is expected to open again on September 6.

If you had additional questions, call 616.530.3164.

Park reservations: Our Parks & Recreation team is contacting those with park reservations to see if we can relocate or reschedule them. Reservations canceled by the storm will be refunded unless they were relocated to another park or facility. For questions, call 616.530.3164.

Permits: Wyoming is waiving the fees for building or electrical permits for storm-related repairs. You still need to secure a permit from the City.
