Community Education

The Wyoming Fire Department is committed to reducing the tragedy and devastation of fire related death and injury. To achieve this goal, our personnel actively seek every available opportunity to teach fire safety to young and old. However, it is difficult to measure the effectiveness of fire safety or fire prevention programs because we are unable to statistically measure the number of fire injuries or deaths that never occurred. We fervently believe that proactive efforts in fire safety education will serve to reduce these losses and will produce benefits that will last for years.

Station tours and fire prevention programs are offered to school classes, scout troops and other groups.  Hands-on fire extinguisher training and CPR classses are also available upon request.  In 2010, the Department participated in over 50 public education events providing fire safety education to over 2,500 individuals. Department personnel also participated in over 25 community events, including parades and block parties, which served thousands.  Please contact the Fire Administration Office to schedule a program.

Wyoming Safe City

The Wyoming Fire and Police Departments offer 'Wyoming Safe City', a program designed to teach safety education to children ages 5 through 7.  This 10-hour program is held over 5 days during the summer and teaches children safe practices involving bicycles, strangers, fire, water, buses, etc.  To learn more about this program, contact the Fire Administration Office.

The existence of this program is largely due to the support of Amerikam, a local business in Wyoming.

FIREmatch Program

The Wyoming Fire Department has continued to take an active role in the guidance of Kent County's FIREmatch program. This program provides counseling and fire safety education to juvenile fire-setters. Please contact the Fire Marshal at the Fire Administration Office for additional information.

Fire Safety House

In 1994, through the combined efforts of the Wyoming Rotary Club and the Rogers Plaza Merchant's Association, along with contributions from a few school districts and individuals, a Fire Safety House was acquired. This unit, which simulates actual smoky room conditions, teaches kids of all Safetyages about fire prevention, safety, and how to safely escape their burning home.

A telephone setup also teaches the proper way to dial 911 to report such an emergency.

Our Commitment

The Wyoming Fire Department comes in contact with thousands of people annually. These contacts are made through Department sponsored CPR Classes, fire safety programs, station tours and fire extinguisher training. Our Department also appears in numerous parades and provides fire safety education to countless people at neighborhood block parties.

As you can see, we put a very high priority on fire safety education and our members try to provide it in a way that is fun and, at the same time, make it a learning experience for all.
